The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 12
By Gaylon Kent
The Writer's Shack

It's a logjam atop the Bottom Ten leaderboard, as the drain leading to The Dan Henning Trophy is clogged with no less than four one-win teams. This will change this week as Detroit invades Cleveland in one of the most anticipated midseason matchups in recent B-10 history.

Even with all eyes focusing on Cleveland this week, there is still a long way to go, and veteran B-10 watchers know that you exclude the really lousy two-win teams, like Kansas City and Oakland, from the B-10 medal stand picture at your peril.

This week's fiasco, as the battleaxes limp up the backstretch:

1.
Detroit Lions (1-8; lost to Brett Favre 27-10) - Defending B-10 champions, facing gut-check time following ending of 19-game losing streak earlier this season, answer critics with follow-up losing streak that is now at six (6) games...Lions petitioning for B-10 Legacy status with six (6) six six (6) game losing streaks this century…Next Loss: at Cleveland

2.
Cleveland Browns (1-8; lost to Baltimore 16-0) - Browns tune up for showdown with Lions by scoring six or fewer points in a game for sixth time in 2009…Browns first team in NFL to have separate four-game losing streaks in season…Next Loss: Detroit

3.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8; lost to Miami 25-23) - Buccaneers capture Florida's automatic entry into B-10 regionals with loss…With two games each with New Orleans and Atlanta remaining, Buccaneers have excellent chance to run the table…Next Loss: New Orleans

4.
St. Louis Rams (1-8; lost to New Orleans 28-23) - Rams prove old adage that on any given Sunday they can lose to anybody with heartbreaking loss to undefeated Saints that wasn't decided until the final play…Next Loss: Arizona

5. NFC West (14-22) - Current holders of Pete Rozelle Trophy, given to NFL's worst division…Gets nod over dreadful AFC West by having only one team above .500...Next Loss: Automatic playoff spot for champion.

6.
Oakland Raiders (2-7; lost to Kansas City 16-10) - With next three games against teams with winning records, Raiders hoping to carry momentum of current three-game losing streak into type of losing skid that propels teams to B-10 medal stand…Next Loss: Cincinnati

7.
Kansas City Chiefs (2-7; defeated Oakland 16-10) - Despite win, Chiefs hoping next three games against teams with winning records will turn into type of losing streak that propels team to B-10 medal stand!...Next Loss: Pittsburgh

8.
NFL Bottom Ten - Venerable, popular, cousin of NCAA Bottom Ten has already taken two (2) bye weeks and been missing in action for two more in 2009…Has not gone the distance and produced polls in every week of a season since 1943.

9.
Buffalo Bills (3-6; lost to Tennessee 41-17) - Bills firing of head coach and putting coordinator of defense that's given up 72 points in last two games in charge of entire operation should solve all their problems…Next Loss: at Jacksonville

10.
Toronto Argonauts (3-15; DNP) Argonauts claim NAFTA-mandated Pierre Trudeau Medallion as CFL's worse team, move on to B-10 International Regionals against Beijing Blasters…Came within one yard of allowing three nautical miles of total offense in 2009…Next Loss: Season over.
