The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 6
By Gaylon Kent
The Writer's Shack

Oh my, with Detroit's losing streak out of the way, Bottom Ten pollsters are salivating over this year's race for the Dan Henning Trophy, with no less than six (6!) winless teams trying to make a mockery of the B-10 race, which is not easy to do.

The NFL is soooo bad this year pollsters could not find room for winless Carolina, who had the week off, and Washington, who barely beat the Rams a couple of weeks ago, snapped the Lions 19-game losing streak last week and this week had its hands full with winless Tampa Bay.

This week's mess, as the nags head into the clubhouse turn:

1.
St. Louis Rams (0-4; lost to San Francisco 35-0) - Rams have been shutout in half their games in 2009 and are averaging a mere six points a game…Rams go three and out eight times but are putting smiley faces on playbooks for attempting,  missing a field goal vs. 49ers…Rams have lost 14 straight, best in NFL, and 31 of 36 dating back to 2007 and are 0-4 for first time since, well, last year…Next Loss: Brett Favre

2.
Cleveland Browns (0-4; lost to Cincinnati 23-20 OT) - Offense puts up 23 points, its highest total since the Bush Administration, only to have defense give up first down late in overtime on fourth and eleven, leading to game-losing field goal…Browns have lost 10 straight and 12 of last 13 and are 0-4 for first time since 1999…Next Loss: at Buffalo

3.
Kansas City Chiefs (0-4; lost to New York Giants 27-16) - Chiefs offense takes charge early, managing to convert two (2) Giant turnovers into just three (3) points…Chiefs have lost eight (8) straight, 27 of 29 and are 0-4 for first time since 1980…Next Loss: Dallas

4.
Tennessee Titans (0-4; lost to Jacksonville 37-17) - Titans serve notice early they weren't interested in this one as four first half drives go three and out and two others go just two plays…NFL about to inform head coach Jeff Fisher that if he is going to serve on league's Competition Committee he must actually coach a team that is competitive…Titans 0-4 for first time since 2006…Next Loss: Indianapolis

5.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4; lost to Washington 16-13) - After losing by an average of 16-and-a-half points the first three games, NFL grant Buccaneers Moral Victory designation for close, three-point loss…Tampa Bay has lost eight straight and  is 0-4 for first time since 2006…Next Loss: at Philadelphia

6.
Detroit Lions (1-3; lost to Chicago 48-24) - Lions, losers of 26 of last 28, begin follow-up to 19-game losing streak with blowout loss…Tied at 21 at halftime, Lions special teams sets tone coming out of locker room by allowing 102-yard return for touchdown on second half kickoff, on their way to getting outscored 27-3 in second half…Next Loss: Pittsburgh

7.
Oakland Raiders (1-3; lost at Texas 29-6)  Inspired by head coach Tom Cable's announcement that coaching staff beat downs will continue till they start winning again, Raiders explode for eight (8) first downs and 45 yards rushing…Since playing in, and losing, Super Bowl XXXVII, Raiders have gone 25-75…Next Loss: at New York Giants

8.
Major League Baseball Playoffs - If they are going to make first round last a whole week, and potentially make teams travel twice, why don't they make the first round best of seven affairs?... Also, why don't they end the season on a Wednesday so the first round can take place over two weekends…Next Loss: Next generation of fans as World Series games continue to go past everyone's bedtime!

9.
NFC South (6-8) - Only NFL division with two winless teams earns Pete Rozelle Pin, given to league's worst division, no small accomplishment when NFC West is 5-10!

10.
Caster Semenya - South African runner sounds like a guy and looks like a guy, but competes as a woman, at least until track governing body can determine who she took to the prom…Perhaps IOC chief Jacques Rogge can reach down and grab some groceries to determine what the deal is in time for 2012 Olympics in London.
